Little Dandelion Lace

Little Dandelion Lace is knitted flat with alternating bands of simple lace and checkerboard stranded knitting. This creates a small, delicate but distinctive piece for warmer days to adorn the head or neck.

The stitch patterns have been chosen to allow newer knitters to explore two techniques while making something that looks impressive, elegant and fun.

The inspiration for this design is an historic engraving of a dandelion root viewed under a microscope by the pioneering botanist Nehemiah Grew. In the late 1600s he was one of the first people to record and study the deceptively simple, rhythmic and organised beauty of plant cells.

Suggested Yarn

I used Laxtons undyed which is a 100% wool, 4ply/fingering yarn.

Pure wool suits stranded knitting very well due to its fuzzy quality and tendency for the fibres to mesh into the fabric.
